Converting your Aga to electric: Benefits, save money, reduce energy use and cost

Converting your current Aga to a new electric model is the best way to update and modernise your Aga whilst also making a difference to your running costs. Below we explain everything you’ll want to know about the process, from the benefits and running costs, to a detailed description of what is involved and how much it will cost to convert your Aga.

Benefits of converting your Aga to Electric

  • You can reduce your Aga’s running costs by up to 80%. The conversions we supply are highly efficient and will make a difference to your energy bill when used to their maximum potential. A 13amp Aga costs between £65-£83 per week to run, however, eControl Series X Agas cost just £7-9 per week to run.

  • Increased flexibility – the Aga is only on when you want it to be.

  • Simple-to-use control panels

  • No more service requirements and costs give another opportunity to save money

  • You’re no longer at the whim of volatile gas and oil price rises

  • You’re in control – your Aga can keep you warmer in winter, and be cooler in the summer

  • No need for a flue – this means you can put your Aga where you want, and not be confined to an external wall.

  • Short heat-up times, especially when uses in conjunction with wi-fi timers

EControl or Electrickit

There are two options when it comes to a new electric conversion:

Electrickit and eControl. Both are great systems to convert your Aga with.

What type of Aga can be converted?

We can convert all types of gas, oil and traditional 13 amp models to an eControl or electrickit Aga.

Electric Aga running costs

Using the latest electric kwH costings of 28p/kWh, and an estimated 2100kWh per year, it works out at £588 for the year / £11.30 per week to run an eControl Aga.

This is based on two adults being away from the house during the day and using one of our free wi-fi timers to set the oven to be on for three hours in the morning and five-and-a-half hours in the evening, and the hotplates being on and used as and when.

eControl running costs

One of the most important benefits of converting your Aga is the incredible energy savings…and the consequent financial savings you’ll make.

Using the energy usage data from Aga’s own site, a traditional Aga would cost:

  • Gas Agas cost between £34 and £42 per week to run

  • Oil Agas cost between £28 and £35 per week to run

  • 13amp electric Agas cost between £66(!!) and £81(!!!) per week to run

These numbers can be verified here

Converting your Aga to electric with eControl would be: £7-£9 per week.

Such is the size of the saving, if you’re converting your 13amp to eControl, then you’ll effectively ‘make your money back’ on the cost of converting in just over ONE year.

How does the Aga electric conversion process work?

Currently, we operate on an approximate four-week lead time to convert your Aga to eControl. We aim to complete your conversion in just a single day on-site to minimise disruption.

The conversion process starts with us arriving on site in the morning and stripping down your Aga and removing all the vermiculite insulation.

All the redundant parts of the Aga are removed and the electric conversion begins with modifying the cast iron ovens and warming cupboard (on four oven models) to enable the new elements and thermostats to work their magic.

The elements are positioned between the ovens and new high grade ceramic fibre blanket insulation is used to wrap the ovens to ensure all the heat generated is kept within the cast iron ovens and warming cupboard(4 oven models).

The hobs are replaced with newly manufactured hobplates and connected to the control panel, where it is wired into the new Wi-Fi timers.

We also offer an uplift package for your cooker with a newly enamelled top and new lids to go with your newly converted Aga.
